What does the national lockdown mean for your move?

England is now in lockdown for the next four weeks. The good news is that the government has confirmed that the housing market remains open and moves will continue despite the new restrictions. Our branches are open and we look forward to keeping you moving through lockdown, whilst keeping you safe.

What are the current lockdown restrictions?

England is now under new lockdown measures which run from 5th November to 2nd December. As it stands, from December, new measures will be brought in on a local basis.

Scotland has launched a new five-tier system based on risk levels. Currently, all areas are in either tier one, two or three.

Wales has lifted its lockdown measures. 'Non-essential' businesses can re-open but social-distancing restrictions remain in place. 

Can I move home?

The new lockdown in England won’t affect home moves, with the property market remaining open throughout. We have made some changes to adhere to new government guidelines and ensure our customers can continue to move safely. We are still able to value your property, carry out viewings and progress home moves.

Can I view properties?

Absolutely. Virtual viewings are advised whenever possible to help limit the number of viewings you need to arrange. Prior to your appointment we will provide you with details of how it will be conducted and what is required to help keep everyone safe.

Some of the measures we are taking include: 

  1. Adherence to social distancing rules
  2. Wearing PPE e.g. face coverings
  3. Occupiers leaving the property during a viewing
  4. Viewings should be limited to 15 minutes
  5. No more than two households should be present, with the agent counting as one household.
  6. As few people as possible should be at the property.     

Can I get a mortgage payment holiday?

Back in March, the government announced that homeowners could take a three-month mortgage payment holiday if their finances were affected by COVID-19. Applications for this holiday were due to close 31st October, but the new lockdown means they’ve now been extended by a further six months. If you haven’t already taken out a payment holiday, you can request a break of up to six months.

At present, let us reassure you that the housing market is moving apace despite the restrictions caused by COVID-19.
